Soundproof a party wall advice - please!
I've posted stuff on here before about my slightly nutty neighbour (the one who put up a fence to block out our conservatory window as our cat was looking into her kitchen and 'intimidating' her)

Well another issue we have is that we have paper thin walls between us with nothing filling the cavity. This means you can hear a ridiculous amount of noise through the walls - some if it unavoidable. You can hear plug/light switches being turned on and off and plugs going in and out of sockets and they seem louder than if we were doing it ourselves. You can also hear her sneezing and, though she lives alone, when she has guests you can hear her conversations, though normally only the male voices are clear. She's currently having some building work done and I've just been treated to half an hour of a clap talking about plastering work for tomorrow. (Which was a refreshing change from the drilling and sawing that was going on at 9pm for the last 3 nights)

We have a 3 year old and a one month old - she must be able to hear them constantly. I don't really care in many respects, the whole situation us just pudding us off now - I suppose the more you hear, the more sensitised you become to it. I had a 45 minute conversation with he'd asking her to turn her tv down and particularly the bass as Christmas Eve you could hear skyfall out in the pavement and normally it's like having a boy racer parked outside as you get that horrible lie pitch baddy reverb which, once you hear it, is impossible to ignore. She refused on the grounds that she is not a 'noisy neighbour' and I know full well that the noise isn't enough for the council to care as I used to have a lot of involvement in asb and public protection in my job.

So do any of you have any knowledge/expertise/experience in sound proofing walls? Do you have to do different things depending on the type of noise? Can filling the cavity do anything to help? I live just outside bristol if anyone knows a company!

Any help gratefully received

Use 'gypliner' bars, and 2x layers of 15 mm 'soundblock' board.. Bit of 25mm rockwool behind the boards. Pretty straight forward to do, and will only take about 60mm iff your room

The walls in question would be our living room and dining room - her rooms are the same on the other side of the wall. I reckon it's about 12 foot wide and 7 high (they are small houses) and a bit wider in the dining room. I don't think the walls are brick - to be fair, even if youvgentkyvtap on it you can hear a wobbly echo. I'm no acoustic or physics expert, but it seems to perfectly carry bass sounds.

Gyproc do an insulated acoustic board that you might be able to dot and dab. Would have to check first as I bet they're FUCK OFF heavy.

What you need is sound attenuating insulation, which normally requires opening the walls up.

If they broke the chasing discs, it sounds like you might have rendered walls. The internal walls might be slag fill (from the slag heap, not next door). if so, you will have to batten and plasterboard - using two layers of plasterboard will kill the noise.

How big is the party wall?

What rooms are adjacent to it?

You need to create a room within a room sniper. Walls floors ceilings need to touch the originals. It's hard work and a bit of wedge too. I'm in an end terrace and next door is a mother and two kid. They are a good family but unaware of the noise they make and they are singers and guitarists. I'm getting ours soundproofing this year but find if you can use a background noise like a fan or white noise it helps massively. I use an app on my phone called mynoise, when they get noisy on goes the waterfall in an Indian desert or whatever and its ok.

However there used to be a thieving jobshy cunt on the other end of the terrace with his scummy feral kids and punchbag for a wife that used to blare his drum n bass music at two am. I could feel our floors shake through two houses. He was asked numerous times to tone it down, they made life he'll for the lady next door. In the end after one altercation too many some one lost the plot and wandered round the cunts with a baseball bat. The family moved out a week later. Turned out Mr Chav could only stand up to women and his arsehole disintegrated when someone gave him more than chat.

Sniff a load of powder. Sit in your front room until the sun comes up. Then when you get up in the afternoon e wry thing will be on silent from the night before

Is the wall brick? If so should be q fairly easy job in terms of injecting something into the cavity that will insulate as well as dampen the noise.

Was built in the 60s. It's a cavity wall - we had a rewire done when we moved in and the external walls are so tough they broke 2 chasing machines, but the dividing walls are like a cereal box
